New Delhi: Three days after the ceasefire announcement, the Centre on Tuesday declared an official working at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi as persona non-grata. The person is engaged in activities inconsistent with his diplomatic role.
Earlier on May 11, The Punjab Police announced the arrest of two persons on charges of espionage activities. A Pakistani national posted at the high commission in New Delhi was also found to be involved in the case .
The police took a man in its custody initially for allegedly providing “sensitive information”to a Pakistan-based handler. Based on information provided by him, another person was taken in custody.
India conveys decision to Pakistan’s Charge d’Affaires
The decision regarding this has been conveyed to the Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission. The step taken by the Centre has come at a time when tensions between India and Pakistan reached new high after Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed and several others were injured.
Soon after the tragedy, there was massive anger across the country against the perpetrators. The probe revealed that The Resistance Front (the sister group of Pakistan-based terror organisation LeT) was behind the attack.
Following this India launched Operation Sindoor and targeted nine locations of LeT and other Pakistani terror groups JeM and HM. While India targeted only terror organisations, Pakstani tried to hit back targeting the Indian military and other establishments. However, all their efforts failed as the Indian armed forces successfully destroyed all Pakistani drones with the help of Air Defence Systems.
