‘Hope she will fulfill all promises’: BJP Ministers, AAP congratulate Rekha Gupta

New Delhi: Rekha Gupta has been selected as the next Chief Minister of Delhi, marking a historic moment for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Celebrations erupted following the announcement, with senior BJP leaders and even political rivals from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) extending their congratulations.

Gupta becomes the fourth woman to hold the position of Delhi’s Chief Minister, following in the footsteps of Sheila Dikshit, Sushma Swaraj, and Atishi.

Following the BJP’s announcement, supporters gathered outside Gupta’s residence to celebrate her victory. BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad confirmed that Gupta was elected unanimously by the legislative party.

Expressing her gratitude, Rekha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President J.P. Nadda, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and the central observers, Ravi Shankar Prasad and O.P. Dhankar, for their support.

Atishi, AAP leader and former Chief Minister of Delhi congratulated Gupta while also emphasising the BJP’s responsibility to fulfill its campaign promises. Atishi expressed her party’s willingness to collaborate with the BJP for the betterment of Delhi and praised the growing presence of women in politics.

Prominent figures in the BJP, including Union Home Minister Amit Sha, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and UP CM Yogi Adityanath also conveyed their congratulations through social media posts, expressing confidence in Gupta’s leadership and Delhi’s future development under her guidance.

“I extend my hearty congratulations and best wishes to Mrs @gupta_rekha ji on being elected the leader of the BJP legislative party. I have full faith that you will work with dedication in the direction of the resolution taken by Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji to make Delhi one of the top capitals of the world,” Shah posted on X in Hindi.

Former Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal echoed these sentiments on X (formerly Twitter), offering his congratulations and pledging support for initiatives focused on the development and welfare of Delhi’s citizens.

“Many congratulations to Rekha Gupta ji on becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi. I hope that she will fulfill all the promises made to the people of Delhi. We will support her in every work for the development and welfare of the people of Delhi,” Kejriwal posted on X.

The 50-year-old leader won from Shalimar Bagh, defeating AAP candidate Bandana Kumari by over 29,000 votes in the February 5 Assembly polls.
