‘His contributions will always be remembered’:  Sunil Ambedkar expresses condolences over  Dr Jayant Narlikar’s death

New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swamsevak Sangh (RSS) Prachar Paramukh Sunil Ambedkar on Tuesday expressed his condolences on the death of well-known astrophysicist Dr Jayant Narlikar. Paying his tribute, Ambedkar said that with Narlikar’s death, India has lost an well-known scientist and science broadcaster.

Ambedkar further noted that Narlikar presented a deep analysis of science interestingly and made them popular by publishing in the Marathi language.

“With the sad demise of renowned astrophysicist Dr Jayant Narlikar, India has lost an international scientist and science broadcaster. Paying our heartfelt tributes to Padma Vibhushan Dr Narlikar, we pray to God to grant peace to his soul,” Ambedkar wrote in in X handle.

He added, “After completing his higher education, he came back to India, and along with research, he presented the deep analysis of science interestingly and made it popular by publishing it in the Marathi language. His contribution will always be remembered and inspiring. Om Shanti.”

Dr Narlikar, who passed away yesterday, played a crucial role in the field of cosmology and helped in promoting science among the public. Born on July 19, 1938, Narlikar spent most part his career in research, teaching as well and building institutions.

He joined the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in 1972 and played an important role in gaining global recognition for . He also started the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA)in Pune in 1988. He was also the director of IUCAA rill 2003 and helped it to become a world-known centre for astronomy research. Dr Narlikar also held the position of Emeritus Professor at IUCAA.
