Dehradun: The highly anticipated helicopter service for Hemkund Sahib Yatra in Uttarakhand has officially commenced on Monday, allowing pilgrims to secure aerial transport between Govindghat and Ghangaria.
With the doors of Hemkund Sahib set to open on May 25, devotees are gearing up for the sacred journey, aided by Pawan Hans Aviation’s Heli service.
415 tickets were reserved through the IRCTC
On the first day of bookings, 415 tickets were reserved through the IRCTC website, marking a strong start to the pilgrim season. The Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) has opened bookings for travel slots between May 25 and June 22, ensuring ample opportunity for visitors to plan their trips. While early reservations indicate high demand, many seats remain vacant, offering flexibility for those yet to book.
Online booking process and fare details
Pilgrims can book helicopter tickets online exclusively through the IRCTC portal (heliyatra.irctc.co.in), with registration mandatory before securing seats. The ticket booking process began at 12 noon on Monday, providing travelers with a streamlined way to reserve their flights.
The round-trip fare per passenger has been set at Rs 10,080, making the heli service a premium but convenient option for those seeking a faster and more comfortable route to Hemkund Sahib.
Importance of Helicopter service for pilgrims
The Govindghat-Ghangaria route, a critical segment of the Hemkund Sahib Yatra, can be challenging due to its rugged terrain and high-altitude conditions. The helicopter service provides a much-needed alternative, particularly for elderly pilgrims and individuals with health concerns who may struggle with the steep trek.
With Hemkund Sahib located at 4,632 meters above sea level, the journey often tests the endurance of devotees. However, Pawan Hans Aviation’s heli service ensures a quicker and more comfortable travel experience, helping pilgrims reach their spiritual destination with ease.
Tickets can only be booked through IRCTC’s official platform
UCADA’s Additional Chief Executive Officer, Dayanand Saraswati, emphasized the importance of prior registration for all heli travelers, ensuring smooth operations and safety measures. He reiterated that tickets can only be booked through IRCTC’s official platform, preventing fraudulent bookings and unauthorized sales.
Authorities have also advised passengers to check weather conditions before traveling, as mountainous regions often experience sudden weather changes, which could impact flight schedules.
Pilgrimage season in full swing
With Hemkund Sahib’s opening scheduled for May 25, thousands of devotees are expected to make their way to the revered Sikh shrine in the coming weeks. The booking rush signals a strong influx of visitors, reinforcing Hemkund Sahib’s significance as a major spiritual destination. As preparations continue, authorities remain focused on ensuring a seamless yatra, maintaining safety, and providing efficient travel options for all pilgrims.
