Heavy rain lashes parts of Delhi; IMD issues orange alert for next two days

New Delhi: Several areas of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), including the southern, central, and southwestern zones, experienced evening showers on Wednesday, providing much-needed relief from the lingering summer heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, indicating the possibility of moderate to heavy rain in some parts of the capital. This rainfall aligned with the IMD’s earlier prediction of moderate rain for the day.

The maximum temperature reached 35.6°C, slightly below the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.4°C, which is 1.5 degrees below normal. Humidity levels remained high throughout the day, peaking at 81% at 8:30 AM and dropping to 58% by 5:30 PM.

In addition to the refreshing rain, the city’s air quality showed improvement. The Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 81 at 4 PM, placing it in the satisfactory category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory and poses no serious health risks for the general public. With more rain expected, the IMD will continue to monitor weather developments closely.
