Valsad: A tailor in Gujarat’s Valsad district got the shock of his lifetime after he received an electricity bill of of Rs 86 lakhs for his shop. The tailor identified as Ansari usually pays the bill through UPI. The bill he received was more than his shop’s property value.

Speaking to the media later, Ansari said he was shocked after seeing the bill and immediately rushed to the electricity office to check with them. The shop receives electricity through state-owned Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited. Ansari’s shop, ‘New Fashion Tailor’ is located in Chor Gali of the district He stitches various clothes ranging from shirt-pants to sherwanis.

As soon as he flagged his concerns, the officials of the electricity office reached his shop and checked the metre. After checking the same they found that two digits were added to the meter reading by mistake, which led to the huge bill amount.

“There was a mistake. The person who took the reading of the metre added digits 10 to it, leading to the figure of Rs 86 lakh bill. He has now been given the revised bill of Rs 1,540,” an official from the power distribution company said.

Tailor becomes a celebrity overnight

Ansari later said that he normally received a bill of around Rs 2,000. As soon as the reports of the Rs 86 lakh bill spread in the district many people started visiting the shop with many clicking photos with him. He even joked that he should now start charging for photos.
