New Delhi: A phone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump has stirred a political row. While the government described the call as a strong diplomatic message rejecting Trump’s earlier claim that he helped negotiate a ceasefire between India and Pakistan after Operation Sindoor, Congress sees it differently.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh called it a “triple jhatka” (triple shock) for India. He pointed out that the call happened on the same day Pakistan’s Army chief General Asim Munir was scheduled to have lunch with Trump at the White House. General Munir had earlier made controversial remarks about Kashmir, calling it Pakistan’s “jugular vein” just days before the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which left 26 people dead.
Field Marshall Asim Munir, the man whose inflammatory, incendiary and provocative remarks were linked directly to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attacks, is having lunch today with President Trump in the White House. Is this why President Trump abandoned the G7 Summit a day early…

Ramesh questioned whether PM Modi brought up General Munir’s remarks with Trump during the call. He said these statements had encouraged terrorism and demanded the Prime Minister inform Parliament about the full details of the call. “The PM has been silent for 37 days… Why can’t he now call an all-party meeting and tell us what he told Trump?” Ramesh asked.
He also referred to Trump’s past claims, at least 14 times, of helping to solve the India-Pakistan issue, and the praise by a US general calling Pakistan a “phenomenal” partner in counter-terrorism. According to Ramesh, these developments show how India’s foreign policy is being weakened.
Jairam Ramesh has long been known for peddling fake narratives — even many within his own party have admitted it openly. But this time, he has been caught with his hand in the till!

Congress leader’s claims were strongly denied by BJP leaders. Amit Malviya, BJP’s IT Cell head, accused Jairam Ramesh of lying and misleading the public. He said no official statement had yet been released by the US on the phone call. “He’s showing a fake readout dated January 2025,” Malviya said, adding that PM Modi clearly told Trump India doesn’t accept third-party mediation.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also slammed Congress, calling it the “biggest spreader of fake news.” Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said Trump must clearly tweet and withdraw his claims about helping mediate between India and Pakistan.
