New Delhi: In a decision taken on May 23, Rajya Sabha members will now be provided with a range of modern electronic gadgets to aid them in their parliamentary duties. According to a bulletin issued by the Rajya Sabha, MPs will have access to smart projectors, portable projector screens, smart TVs, smart displays, tablet computers with keyboards, and smart speakers or wearable devices.
Until now, MPs were provided with desktop computers, laptops, pen drives, printers, scanners, UPS devices, tempered glass screen guards, and smartphones. Alongside these, necessary IT equipment such as antivirus software, speakers, headphones, webcams, and AirPods have also been supplied.
The bulletin states that these computer-related facilities are intended to empower members in performing their duties efficiently and are provided under the provisions of the “Computer Equipment (Rajya Sabha Members and Officers) Rules, 2008”.
Updated list of gadgets for MPs
The list of gadgets provided to MPs has been revised under Rule 4, Sub-rule (iv) of the scheme’s regulations. The updated list now includes:
- Desktop and laptop computers
- Pen drives
- Printers (Deskjet, Laserjet, Multifunctional, Portable)
- Scanners
- UPS (only with desktops)
- Handheld communicators/computers/smartphones
- Data internet cards
- MS Office suite
- Language software and speech recognition software
- E-readers
- Computer monitors
- External hard drives
- Smart projectors and portable projector screens
- Smart televisions and smart displays
- Tablet computers with keyboards
- Smart speakers and wearable devices
- Additional IT Accessories and Support
Further, MPs will receive supportive and necessary IT accessories such as antivirus software, speakers, headphones, microphones, webcams, Bluetooth headsets/AirPods, styluses, external keyboards, smart keyboards, laptop bags, cooling pads, phone/e-reader covers, tempered glass screen guards, and warranty extension packs.
The initiative aims to keep parliamentarians equipped with the latest technology to ensure seamless digital connectivity and efficiency in their legislative work.
