Firecracker ban not implemented, observes SC; seeks response from authorities

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday (November 4) observed that ban of firecrackers was not implemented on this Diwali and sought the response from the Delhi Government to file affidavit about the steps taken to ensure pollution was tackled.

A bench comprising Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Augustine George Masih also directed the Delhi Police commissioner to file effidavit about steps taken to enforce the ban on firecrackers.

The bench also directed the Delhi government and the Delhi Police to highlight in their response the steps they they propose to take that non-compliance on firecracker ban does not happen next year and steps for public campaign. The bench also directed the states of Punjab and Haryana regarding the details of last 10 days of stubble burning.
