New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that those who speak English will soon feel ashamed while calling for the reclamation of the rich linguistic heritage. He stressed the importance of the native languages, asserting that they are integral for preserving the cultural integrity of the country.

Speaking at the launch of ‘Main Boond Swayam, Khud Sagar Hoon’, a book written by former IAS officer Ayush Agnihotri, Shah said that foreign languages should not be predominating over native languages. “I feel those who speak English will soon feel ashamed and the creation of such a society is not far away. Only those who are determined can bring about change,” he added.

Emphasis native languages

Shah said that India must shed off its colonial influence and embrace its own native languages with pride. He further said that the languages of our country are the real jewels of our culture. Shah reiterated that foreign languages cannot capture the true essence of Indian culture and history, adding that the idea of complete India cannot be imagined through “half-baked” foreign languages.

That is why by 2047, we will be at a pinnacle, and our languages will play a major role in this journey,”  Shah said.
