The heavy rains and storms brought down the temperature in the city, bringing much needed respite from heat. Areas like Krishi Bhavan, Rafi Marg, and Udyog Bhawan saw heavy rains.

IMD issues advisory

Following the heavy rainfall in the city, the IMD came up with an advisory for the people. It asked people to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Residents were also advised to unplug electrical appliances to avoid damage from lightning surges.

People were asked to not take shelter under trees or metal structures during the storm, as trees might get uprooted by strong winds blowing across the city. People were also advised not to use mobile phones outdoors during lightning activity. Farmers and labourers should suspend field work and take shelter during the thunderstorm, according to the IMD. People were also asked to keep emergency kits and flashlights ready, to deal with any untoward situation.

Advising people about the possible disruptions, the IMD said that sudden strong winds might uproot trees, damage temporary structures and disrupt power lines. Intense lightning may pose a danger to life, especially in open areas, they said. The traffic might be disrupted due to heavy rains, added the IMD advisory.

The flights and train services might be impacted due to the rains and people have been advised to plan their travel accordingly. Livestock and cattle may also face consequences of the rain and thunderstorms, said the IMD.
