Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s letter to General Officer Commanding-in-Chief is fake: PIB Fact check

New Delhi: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Thursday debunked claims that Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has written to General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command. They clarified that a letter doing the rounds on social media supposedly written by Singh, is fake.

Pakistan trying to spread misinformation

The PIB clarified that no such letter has been sent to the Army officer by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. In a post on social media platform, ‘X’ they said, “A #FAKE letter purportedly addressed by Defence Minister of India, @rajnathsing, to General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command is being shared on social media.”

It further went on to say that the alleged letter was being promoted by Pakistani accounts as false propaganda and was aimed at spreading misinformation. They also requested people not to share unverified information and rely only on official sources from the Government of India for accurate information.

The letter purpodely written by Singh, refers to a supposed visit by PM Narendra Modi to the Udhampur Air base. It gives instruction to the Army personnel on how to behave and what to say to the PM, during the visit. The PIB however clarified that no such letter was ever written and no instructions were given by UNion Minister Rajnath Singh to the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command.

Ever since ‘Operation Sindoor’ which was the code name of India’s strikes against terrorists in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) several fake pieces of news have come in the public domain. The PIB through its fact check has taken the onus to debunk all such fake news being peddled in India, by foreign elements, especially by Pakistan.
