New Delhi: According to an India Today report, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has alleged that senior Congress leaders were instructed to donate large sums to Young Indian Limited, a company that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi controlled and linked to the National Herald case.
The agency reportedly claimed that several senior leaders of the party across India donated money amounting to lakhs to the company, currently under investigation for what the ED described as a well-orchestrated financial cover-up. The ED in its chargesheet also claimed that Rahul and Sonia were beneficiaries of the funds sent to Young Indian as donations.
The ED has alleged that Young Indian Limited acquired Rs 2,000 crore worth of assets from Associated Journals Ltd, the National Herald newspaper’s publisher, for only Rs 50 lakh. The transaction has prompted allegations of money laundering and misappropriation. Most of the alleged transactions has been traced back to Telangana and four Congress leaders allegedly made hefty donation.
The ED claimed that similar patterns of donations have been seen in Punjab and Karnataka. The investigating agency suspects that the donations were made not involuntarily and were part of a deliberate scheme to funnel money into Young Indian. According to the India Today report, the agency can summon several people involved in the case for questioning in the coming weeks, even as it prepares to file supplementary evidence in court.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has said that while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants money and resources to go to rich people only, the Congress wants the money to go to the poor. He has also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government over Pakistan, terrorism and US President Donald Trump.
On May 17, Gandhi shared an undated video of Jaishankar from his X handle in which the Minister of External Affairs is heard saying that India had warned Pakistan before launching strikes on terror infrastructure. In his post, Gandhi wrote, “Informing Pakistan at the start of our attack was a crime. EAM has publicly admitted that GOI did it.”
