Congress appoints Harshvardhan Sapkal as new Maharashtra PCC president

New Delhi: In a major development from Maharashtra, the Congress has removed Nana Patole as the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President and appointed Harshvardhan Sapkal in his place.

Additionally, Vijay Wadettiwar has been appointed as the Leader of the Legislative Party.

Harshvardhan Sapkal was elected MLA from the Buldhana Assembly constituency in 2014 on Congress ticket. Sakhpal is known for his aggressive political style and eloquence.

In political circles, the new MPCC president is also referred to as “Bunty Sapkal”. He is considered the OBC face of the Congress in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

In March 2017, Harshvardhan Sapkal, along with 18 other MLAs, was suspended from the Maharashtra Assembly. It was alleged that the MLAs disrupted Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar’s budget speech.
