New Delhi: A city court on Wednesday (December 4) took cognisance of a chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against six accused persons in the drowning of three civil services aspirants in the basement of a coaching centre – Rau’s IAS Study Circle – in Old Rajinder Nagar in July this year.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Nishant Garg, while taking cognisance of the chargesheet, said that there was sufficient evidence to proceed against the accused persons and summoned them, including Rau’s IAS Study Circle then CEO Abhishek Gupta and coordinator, Deshpal Singh, on December 20.

The case was filed by the CBI for various alleged offences, including criminal negligence, dereliction of duties and corrupt practices indulged in by any person, including officials of the local authorities.

CBI recently filed chargesheet against six persons

The CBI had recently filed the chargesheet against six persons – Abhishek Gupta, Deshpal Singh, Parvinder Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Tajinder Singh and Harvinder Singh – before a trial court and had urged the court to take cognisance of the chargesheet, submitting there was enough evidence to prosecute the accused persons.

“Cognisance taken against all 6 accused. Summoning them for December 20,” the judge said, news agency PTI reported.

Three students drowned in coaching centre basement on July 27

Three civil services aspirants – Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni and Nevin Dalwin – lost their lives on July 27 after they drowned in the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle coaching centre after the coaching centre basement was flooded following rain in the evening of July 27.

Delhi High Court on August 2 transferred probe from Delhi Police to CBI

The Delhi High Court had on August 2 transferred the probe of the case from the Delhi Police to the CBI. The High Court, which was hearing a plea seeking a high-level committee to investigate the deaths of three civil service aspirants, had also directed the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to nominate a senior officer to oversee the probe carried out by the CBI and ensure that the investigation is complete in a time bound manner.
