Mumbai: A horrific incident was reported from Mumbai’s Borivali West area, where a man died and another was left grievously injured when a lift at a parking lot of a 21-storey building collapsed on Saturday. The accident took place in the morning, said an official from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)
Lift fell into a pit: Fire brigade officials
The accident took place at around 11 am at the Prathamesh Building, located on Link Road, reported PTI. The Mumbai Fire Brigade said that the lift fell into a 7-metre-deep pit. Two people were trapped inside, they added.
The fire brigade was informed and they managed to pull out the 2 individuals from the lift. Those involved in the accident were identified as 30-year-old Shubham Madamlal Dhuri and 45-year-old Sunjeet Yadav. Both were rushed to the BMC-run Shatabdi Hospital.
Doctors at the hospital declared Dhuri brought dead, while Yadav is under treatment. He reportedly has a severe head injury and is undergoing treatment at the facility. The doctors said that his condition is stable.
An investigation has been launched in the incident, said BMC officials. So far there is no clarity on what led to the lift collapse.
In an unrelated incident reported last week, a woman was killed after the remains of a balcony fell on her. This accident was reported from Byculla West. The fifth-floor balcony of the Ashraf Manzil building reportedly collapsed and the remains fell on the woman’s head and chest. The woman was admitted to hospital, but died 2 days later, due to severe head injuries and chest trauma.
