Srinagar: A tragic incident took place on Friday afternoon in Dal Lake near Duck Park, where a boat carrying two persons capsized due to strong gusty winds. While one person was rescued, the other remains missing, and a search operation is currently underway.
According to officials, the two persons were fishing in the lake when sudden strong winds hit their boat, causing it to overturn. Both of them jumped into the water in an attempt to save themselves. The incident caused panic among locals and tourists present in the area.
One of the men, identified as Abdul Majeed Khosa, son of Mohammad Sultan Khosa and a resident of Rainawari in Srinagar, was successfully rescued by emergency teams. He was given first aid and is reported to be safe.
However, the second individual could not be found immediately. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was quickly alerted, and rescue teams rushed to the spot with diving equipment and additional boats to intensify the search operation. Divers are currently scanning the area around where the boat capsized, but strong currents and low visibility are making the search difficult.
An SDRF official confirmed that the search operation will continue until the missing person is found. “We have alerted our headquarters and deployed dive teams and additional boats for the rescue effort. Our teams are doing everything possible to locate the missing individual,” the official said.
