Bilkis Bano case: SC rejects Gujarat’s plea for review of order over adverse remarks

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has rejected a plea filed by the Gujarat government seeking review of the January 8 verdict of the top court setting aside remission granted to the 11 convicts in the gang-rape case of Bilkis Bano.

“Having carefully gone through the Review Petitions, the order under challenge and the papers annexed therewith, we are satisfied that there is no error apparent on the face of the record or any merit in the Review Petitions, warranting reconsideration of the order impugned. The Review Petitions are, accordingly, dismissed,” a bench comprising Justices BV Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan said.

The Gujarat government had submitted in its plea that observation of the top court in its January 8 verdict in which it held the state of Gujarat guilty of “usurpation of power” and “abuse of discretion” for complying with an order of another top court bench was an error.
