Bihar leads in employment generation, Migration declining rapidly

Patna: Bihar is rapidly emerging as a leader in employment generation, significantly reducing migration to other states. Under the Saat Nishchay-2 scheme, the state government has now set a higher target of providing 12 lakh government jobs and 38 lakh other employment opportunities.
Initially, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had set a target of 10 lakh government jobs and 10 lakh other jobs under this scheme. However, this target has now been increased, aiming to create a total of 50 lakh employment opportunities by next year.

In recent years, migration from Bihar to other states in search of jobs has decreased rapidly. According to estimates, a few years ago, more than 5 crore people from Bihar migrated for employment. However, this number is now declining, with a large number of people returning to Bihar due to the availability of new job opportunities.

Since 2020, approximately 7.24 lakh people have secured government jobs in Bihar. This achievement has strengthened the state’s reputation nationwide. In fact, Bihar has become such an attractive job destination that thousands of youth from other states are now securing government jobs here.
According to data from the e-Shram portal, the number of people migrating from Bihar in search of employment has now reduced to 2.9 crore.

During the Pragati Yatra, CM Nitish Kumar approved Rs 50,000 crore for development and infrastructure projects, which are expected to generate over 50 lakh jobs.
The government is actively working to connect youth with employment through various schemes and initiatives, including skill development programs, industrial expansion, and government job appointments.

To further boost employment, the state government is providing financial assistance to aspiring entrepreneurs. Multiple schemes are being implemented to support young people from different sections of society in becoming self-reliant. Bihar’s youth are now rapidly making their mark in entrepreneurship, and the government has introduced several initiatives in recent years to create a business-friendly environment in the state.

The government is also focusing on social development by integrating more women into the government services. Lakhs of women in Bihar are finding employment through Jeevika, a state initiative. Additionally, reservation for women in government jobs has led to a significant rise in their participation in public service. As a result, Bihar now has the highest number of women in the police force in the country.

Farmers in Bihar are benefiting from several government schemes related to agriculture, which have contributed significantly to reducing migration. Additionally, rapid infrastructure development in the state is creating millions of direct and indirect employment opportunities in the manufacturing sector.
