EXCLUSIVE: ‘Son tried to fulfil Nikita’s every wish’, says Atul Subhash’s father

Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police issued summons to the wife and family members of Atul Subhash, a techie who took his own life. The summons directs Atul’s wife, Nikita Singhania, along with her mother, brother and uncle, to appear before the Marathahalli police station in Bengaluru within three days.

The investigation began after a complaint was filed by Atul’s brother, Bikas Kumar. A four-member police team, including one female officer, traveled to Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, the residence of Nikita Singhania, to serve the notice. The notice stated that there are reasonable grounds to interrogate the family to understand the facts and circumstances surrounding Atul’s death.

Emotional distress and harassment alleged in suicide note

Atul Subhash, originally from Bihar, had been living in Bengaluru and working for a private firm. He left behind a 24-page suicide note detailing years of emotional distress and alleged harassment by his wife and her family. The note also included serious accusations against a family court judge and an officer in Uttar Pradesh, claiming they had not heard his side of the story and were involved in corrupt activities.

In the note, Atul wrote, “Justice is Due” on every page, and mentioned that if he succeeded in his fight for justice, his mortal remains should be immersed in the Ganga. Otherwise, he requested that they be discarded in a gutter outside the court.

Atul’s brother, Bikas Kumar, vowed to seek justice for his sibling. “Atul even wrote in his suicide note, ‘If I win from the system, devote my mortal remains in Ganga otherwise in a gutter outside the court,’” Bikas said.

Background of the case

Atul married Nikita Singhania in 2019, and the couple had a child together. However, after their divorce, Nikita and her family filed multiple legal cases against Atul, including accusations of murder, sexual misconduct, harassment, and dowry. Atul claimed that his wife and her family demanded Rs 3 crore to settle these cases. According to the police, Atul had been struggling with these legal battles for years.

The police were alerted about the suicide early on Monday when they received a call at 6 am. When they arrived at the flat, they found the door bolted from inside. Upon breaking in, they discovered Atul Subhash hanging and the disturbing note detailing the alleged harassment.

Video message of Atul

In addition to the suicide note, Atul recorded a video in which he described the emotional abuse he had suffered. He also made a plea not to immerse his ashes till justice was served.

In the video, he also addressed his four-year-old son, whom he claimed had been kept away from him. Atul requested that his parents be granted custody of the child.
