Mumbai: A city court on Friday (October 25) extended till October 26 the police remand of nine accused in the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique on October 12 in Bandra area of the city.

The nine accused – Gurmail Baljit Singh (23), Dharmaraj Kashyap (21), Harish Kumar Nisad (26), Pravin Lonkar (30), Sambhaji Kisan Pardhi (44), Pradeep Dattu Thombre (37), Nitin Gautam Sapre (32), Chetan Dilip Pardhi and Ram Fulchand Kanoujia (43)- were produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Esplanade Court) VR Patil at the expiry of their remand earlier granted by the court.

The prosecution sought extension of remand of accused persons by three days, however, the court extended their police remand by one day till Saturday, news agency PTI reported.

Siddique was shot at by three persons just outside office of his MLA son Zeeshan Siddique

Siddique was shot at by three persons just outside the office of his MLA- son Zeeshan Siddique on October 12. He was taken to Lilavati Hospital after being grievously injured by the firing, however, he died later.

What has the police said?

As per the police, Gurmail Baljit Singh, a Haryana resident, and Dharmaraj Kashyap as well as wanted accused Shivkumar Gautam, natives of Utttar Pradesh, shot at Siddique, while Pune-based Pravin Lonkar’s brother Shubham Lonkar is allegedly associated with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Shubham Lonkar and other wanted accused, as per the police, had conspired to carry out the shooting and they had supplied arms to the gunmen, who attacked Siddique. Nisad, a scrap dealer in Pune, provided financial help for the operation.

Main shooter Shivkumar Gautam, key accused Shubham Lonkar and Mohammed Zeeshan Akhtar are currently on the run and a lookout circular (LoC) has been issued against them.

Court earlier extended police custody of four accused till October 25

The court had earlier extended the police custody of Gurmail Baljit Singh Dharmaraj Kashyap, Harish Kumar Nisad and Pravin Lonkar till October 25 after police sought their further custody submitting that they were not cooperating with the investigation of the case and were giving misleading information.
