New Delhi: Flood-like conditions were reported in several states across India due to continuous heavy rainfall. Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal received heavy to very heavy rainfall. India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the weather in these states would continue for the next 2–3 days.
In Northeast, a red alert was issued for many areas. Assam saw floods in six districts and reported five deaths in Kamrup Metropolitan district. Manipur experienced continuous rainfall for over 48 hours, causing rivers to overflow and low-lying areas to flood. The water level in Imphal River reached near the danger mark, leading to waterlogging in several residential and public areas.
Arunachal Pradesh faced severe landslides, with nine people losing their lives. According to officials, a vehicle carrying two families was swept away on the Bana-Seppa stretch of National Highway 13.
Landslides also disrupted roads connecting Tawang, Bomdila, and Bhalukpong, which remained closed for 24 hours. Authorities were assessing the damage and monitoring the situation.
In South India, Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra were also affected by heavy rains. The IMD predicted continued rainfall in South Karnataka till June 2, and in Konkan, Goa, and parts of Maharashtra till June 3. NDRF and SDRF teams were placed on alert in the affected regions.
