New Delhi: A doctor couple from Rajasthan boarded the ill-fated Air India plane with their three children with a hope to start a new chapter of life in London. Dr. Kaumi Vyas, her husband Pratik Joshi and their three little ones — eight-year-old Miraya Joshi and five-year-old twin boys Pradyut Joshi, Nakul Joshi — were among the passengers who lost their lives in the deadly Air India plane crash.
The family of five who were from Banswara district of Rajasthan had clicked a selfie with a big smile on their faces, before the flight took off. What could be the beginning of a new life, turned into the last chapter of their lives. Kaumi Vyas, who worked at a private hospital in Banswara, shared the family picture on social media as they sat on the plane – the couple smiling and the three children in the frame behind sitting in another row, facing the camera.
Kaumi had resigned from her position last month so she could begin a new life with her husband Pratik, a London-based doctor, and their three children. While Pratik had been living in London for the past six, Kaumi was a pathologist at the Pacific Hospital. She had resigned from the job and had been excitedly preparing for the journey for a month.
The Ahmedabad-London flight crashed on Thursday afternoon, moments after taking off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport on Thursday afternoon. Of the 242 people onboard, only one survived, Air India said in a statement.
The plane brushed past one of the buildings in Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College(BJMC)compound before crashing and bursting into flames. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the official number of deceased will be declared only after DNA testing is completed.
