New Delhi: A total of 13 people were arrested on Monday for allegedly paying bribes to constables to enjoy a few hours of leisure outside the Jaipur Central jail. Among those arrested were five constables, four inmates and four relatives. The four inmates had allegedly secured approvals for medical checkups at the SMS Hospital.
Instead of heading to the hospital, the inmates, Rafiq Bakri, Bhanwar Lal, Ankit Bansal, and Karan Gupta allegedly arranged an outing worth Rs 25,000, which was facilitated by a middleman. It is reported that only one of the inmates actually reached the hospital. According to officials, the accused constables were promised a sum of Rs,5000 each, by the inmates. Moreover, none of the inmates returned to the jail, within the specified time of 05:30 pm.
Convicts enjoy leisure time
Deputy Commissioner of Police Tejaswani Gautam stated that the convicts Rafiq Bakri and Bhanwar Lal met their wife and ex-girlfriend in a hotel at Jalpura. Rafiq’s wife was found with narcotics and apprehended under the Narcotic Drugs And Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. However, Ankit and Karan were spotted having poha for breakfast at a nearby hotel. Ankit’s girlfriend allegedly booked the hotel room in order to spend some leisure time.
The momentous joy of jail inmates
The police reportedly apprehended one of Karan’s relative, carrying Rs 45,000, along with numerous ID cards of the inmates. Sources reveal that the outing was primarily planned by a convicted extortionist still operating from inside the prison. The officials contemplate that there can be a more complex network of bribes, unlicensed phones, and alleged threats to highly influential people including Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma.
The police officials at the Sawai Man Singh Police Station have registered a case against the 13 accused. An investigation is initiated in the Jaipur Central Jail to uncover the entire web of fake identities and an alleged blackmailing racket.
