New Delhi: Even though Delhi-NCR experienced light rain and thunderstorms on Sunday which provided brief relief from the ongoing heatwave, heat and humidity persisted on Monday. Strong surface winds swept the region in the day. The sky was party cloudy for some time. However, there was little respite from the heat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Delhi for Monday. There is forecast of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, strong surface winds, and storms. There are also projections that the maximum temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days.

The maximum temperature hovered around 42 degrees Celsius on Monday, while the minimum temperature was recorded at around 24 degrees Celsius, with a humidity level of almost 62 per cent.

Health authorities and the IMD have been urging people, especially the elderly and children, to stay indoors during peak heat hours between 12 pm and 4 pm.

Forecast for the week

As per the seven-day weather prediction, the maximum temperature in Delhi during the week will hover between 38 degrees Celsius and 41 degrees Celsius.

According to the IMD forecast, rain and thundershowers are expected to continue in the national capital throughout the week from May 19 to 25 amid the heat conditions. Thunderstorms and rain are anticipated on most days, with strong surface winds accompanying them. This will offer some temporary relief from the heat.
