Gaurav Gogoi visited Pakistan on ISI invitation, claims Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

New Delhi: In a fresh salvo at Gaurav Gogoi, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that the Congress MP had visited Pakistan on an invitation by the ISI, the country’s powerful spy agency. He also accused the Congress leader of having worked closely with the establishment of Pakistan.

Will prove charge against Gogoi: Sarma

The Assam CM while talking to reporters on the sidelines of an official function, said that the government had documentary evidence to prove the charge against Gogoi. He said, “every proof will be presented before the public by September 10 after proper verification.”

PTI quoted Sarma as saying, “Gaurav Gogoi visited Pakistan on invitation of the ISI. For the first time, I am saying this. We have documents of the same. He did not go for tourism purposes. He went there definitely for training.”

The CM said that the Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, went to Pakistan on a direct invitation of the ISI and this he said was “dangerous”. He asked, when does the Home Department send an invitation? And answered himself, “It is only to impart training.”

He accused Gogoi of working closely with the Pakistani establishment. He said that an invitation from the foreign affairs (department) or any university is a different thing, but the invitation for Gogoi came from the Home Department of Pakistan and was not from some cultural department.

Warning the Congress leader, Sarma said, “All his paths are closed. We have seen the evidence. Only we need time till September to get the papers. We have to submit a notice and then the embassy will provide us with the documents. September 10 is final and please do not ask about this again till that time.”

This was the second successive day when Sarma has claimed that Gogoi had links to Pakistan. Earlier taking to social media platform, ‘X’, Sarma had questioned Congress Party’s choice of sending Gogoi as a member of the all-party delegation which will visit various countries with a message against Pakistan. Raising questions over the choice, he said, “The Congress MP from Assam who never opposed Pakistan nor spoke anything against it, but who has himself visited Pakistan, was appointed by the Congress to the all-party delegation against Pakistan.”

He further appealed to the Congress to let him know about any BJP MP who had visited Pakistan, discreetly without informing the administration. He said that he will then forward the same information to the BJP president.
