New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over West Rajasthan between May 15 to May 19 and in Uttar Pradesh from May 15 to May 18, 2025. A similar prediction was made for Bihar for 2 days, that is heatwave conditions are likely to be witnessed in the state on May 15 and May 16.
IMD predicts heatwaves, hot and humid weather
The IMD said that heatwave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Bihar on May 15 and 16, 2025, in Punjab on May 16-17 and in West Uttar Pradesh between May 16 to May 18. Eastern part of Uttar Pradesh will witness heatwave from May 15 to May 17. While Western Rajasthan and East Madhya Pradesh are likely to witness heatwave-like conditions between May 15 to May 19 and May 17 to 19 respectively. Heatwave conditions are also likely to prevail over West Madhya Pradesh for 2 days, May 18 and May 19, 2025, said the weather department.
In other parts of India, like the Gangetic part of West Bengal, the weather is likely to remain hot and humid, according to the prediction made by IMD. Similar weather conditions are predicted for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on May 15, they added. In Jharkhand also hot and humid weather will prevail for 2 days, May 15-16, 2025 and in Bihar for a day, i.e. May 17. Odisha will have similar weather (hot and humid) for 3 days, from May 15 to May 17, said the weather department. Nights are expected to be warmer in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh on May 15-16, 2025, they added.
Rains in South India
If northeastern states are predicted to witness heatwaves in the coming days, states in South India will witness rains for the next few days. Rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms are likely to continue over Southern Peninsula for the next 5 days, said IMD. They also predicted isolated heavy rainfall over Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu during the next 3 days.
Talking of the Southwest monsoon, the IMD said that on May 15, the monsoon advanced to some parts of southeast Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin area. It also reached some parts of South Bay of Bengal, Andaman Islands and Andaman Sea. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds which went up to a speed of 60 to 90 kmph, prevailed over Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu. The wind speed in isolated pockets over Jammu-Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Bihar, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Manipur, Marathawada, Kerala, Telangana and interior Karnataka was 40 to 60 kmph on May 15.
