As the electric crematorium was not being used despite investing crores in its construction, professor Santosh Mishra decided to make people aware about this. A former professor at MBPG College Haldwani, is well-known for his work in organ donation, environmental protection, and social service. Distressed that the electric crematorium in Ranibagh was not being utilized for last rites despite its construction, he took a dramatic step. To draw attention to this issue, he decorated a bier, laid down on it, and made an emotional appeal to the public to use the electric crematorium instead of burning bodies, emphasizing the importance of this environmentally friendly practice.

Using wood to cremate bodies would further strain the environment

Retired Professor Santosh Mishra expressed concern about the increasing pressure on forests. He noted that using wood to cremate bodies would further strain the environment. He pointed out that currently, the electric crematorium is only used for unclaimed bodies. However, in major cities, people have started using electric or gas-based crematoriums for their deceased relatives. Mishra emphasized that this practice should extend to smaller towns as well to make significant strides in environmental protection.
