IAF jammed Pakistan’s air defences, hit key targets in 23-minute strike: Govt

New Delhi: The Indian government on Wednesday confirmed that the Indian Air Force (IAF) jammed Pakistan’s Chinese-origin air defence (AD) systems to launch a series of precision strikes under Operation Sindoor between May 7 and 10. The attacks targeted terror camps and military installations deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.

According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the IAF completed its first wave of strikes in just 23 minutes in the early hours of May 7, using advanced jamming technology to blind Pakistani defences. The strikes were executed without any Indian casualties, showcasing India’s surveillance, planning and use of modern indigenous systems such as long-range drones and guided munitions.

Nine terror camps were bombed, including the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Markaz Taiba near Muridke. At least 100 terrorists were killed in the initial strikes, which triggered a brief but intense cross-border military escalation.

India later targeted 13 Pakistani airbases and military installations — including Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Skardu and Karachi’s Malir Cantt — using Rafale-fired Scalp missiles, Sukhoi-launched BrahMos and loitering munitions that destroyed radar systems, missile sites, command centres and runways.

India’s air defence triumph

India’s multi-layered air defence grid, comprising systems like S-400, Barak 8, Pechora, Spyder, and L-70 guns, successfully repelled Pakistani attempts to retaliate. No major damage was reported on the Indian side. The Cabinet Committee on Security, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reviewed the security situation following a fragile ceasefire on May 10. Though the truce has largely held, Indian forces remain on high alert due to drone sightings over Indian cities.

PM Modi, speaking at the Adampur air base, warned that India’s red line against terrorism is now “crystal clear.” He added, “If there is another terror attack, the country will deliver a decisive response. There is no haven left for terrorists.”
