New Delhi: Major political leaders from India have reacted to the latest decision of the ceasefire as India and Pakistan on Saturday agreed to stop firing and military action.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan called his Indian counterpart (DGMO of India) at 3:55 pm. Both countries agreed to stop all the firings and military action from land, air and sea effect from 5pm onwards.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar posted on X that India and Pakistan have worked out an understanding.
“India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action,” he wrote.
“India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so,” he added.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that peace is essential and India wasn’t the one in favour of a long war, but the fight was always against terrorism.
“I think peace is essential, we need to have more details, but I am very glad. India never wanted a long-term war, but India wanted to teach terrorists a lesson, I believe that lesson has been taught,” Tharoor told reporters.
CPI General Secretary D Raja welcomed the decision and said both the nations should hold the interests of their citizens.
“We welcome the ceasefire and hope both nations uphold it in the interest of their peoples. At the same time, the role of the United States in the process has raised certain questions. We believe India and Pakistan have the maturity to address their issues bilaterally,” Raja told news agency PTI.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah
J&K CM Omar Abdullah said the decision of ceasefire was welcomed but wished it was called earlier to prevent loss of lives.
“I welcome from the depths of my heart the announcement made by the Government of India spokesperson about restoration of ceasefire between India and Pakistan,” Abdullah told reporters.
“Better late than never but had this ceasefire come two or three days earlier, perhaps the bloodshed we saw and the precious lives we lost, would have been safe,” he added.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti said the development will bring a big relief for everyone across the border.
“This is a good news for the people of J-K, who have been suffering because of the cross-border shelling for the last few days. I am sure the news has brought a sigh of relief across the border,” Mufti said.
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah said the recent situation has impacted the people living close to the borders.
“Our people along the LoC (Line of Control) and IB (International Border)have borne the brunt of the deteriorating situation between the two neighbouring countries. This measure will greatly alleviate the suffering of our people who have been caught in the crossfire,” Farooq Abdullah said.
“Alhumdulilah (thank god). Better sense has prevailed and India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire,” said Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said it was important to stand for peace and progress of the country while maintaining a strong position against terrorist forces, as a statement was issued from his office.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav hailed Indian armed forces for its strength and clarity during the whole scenes.
“At a time when the Pakistani military and its terror-aligned deep state hold near-total control over the population and national discourse, India has demonstrated unmatched strength and clarity of purpose.
“A heartfelt thank you to Prime Minister Modi and the brave Indian Armed Forces for their unwavering resolve and courage,” wrote BJP IT department head Amit Malviya.
