Kota: 18-year-old NEET aspirant dies by suicide day before exam

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a NEET aspirant has allegedly died by suicide just a day before her examination. According to police officials, the 18-year-old girl hanged herself from an iron grille at her room in the Parshavnath area in Kota.

Without naming the deceased, Kunhadi police station circle inspector Arvind Bhardwaj, as told to news agency PTI, said the girl was originally from Sheopur city in Madhya Pradesh. In order to prepare for her NEET-UG exams, the girl moved to Kota along with her parents to join a coaching institute.

The student was scheduled to appear for the NEET-UG exam on Sunday (May 4). However, on Saturday evening, the girl used her scarf to hang herself from an iron grille in her room. She was found dead around 9 pm, according to the PTI report, and the family members were present at home when the incident took place.

The police said that there was no suicide note left behind and the body was sent for postmortem.

It should be noted that this is the 14th case of a coaching student on suicide reported from Kota alone in 2025 thus far. Last year, a total of 17 coaching students died by suicide were reported from Kota.

A similar case was reported on April 19, where a medical aspirant was found dead after allegedly hanging himself from a fan in the hostel room located in Talwandi in Jawahar Nagar police station area. The deceased was recognised as Tameen Iqbal, a 16-year-old who arrived in Kota just 20 days before the incident to prepare for the NEET exam. He hailed from the Katihar city in Bihar.

A case was registered under the BNS Section 195 at the Jawaharnagar police station and the investigation was underway to find the reason behind the shocking move. Notably, it was the third case of a suicide by a Bihar student in Kota since March.
