New Delhi: Pakistan continued to violate the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) amid the escalating tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists. As Pakistan indulged in unprovoked firing along the border for the sixth straight day on Wednesday, the Indian Army gave a swift and proportionate response.

In a statement, the Indian Army said: “During the night of 29-30 April 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani and Akhnoor sectors in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Indian Army troops responded swiftly and proportionately.”

Border tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours have mounted since April 22 when Pahalgam attack occurred. Pakistan has been breaching the ceasefire frequently along the LoC, forcing the Indian forces to retaliate strongly.

Pakistan claims India is planning a military strike

Earlier, Pakistan claimed that it had “credible intelligence” input that India is planning a military strike against it in the next 24-36 hours, a PTI report said.

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar pointed out that the Indian government is preparing to carry out military action against Pakistan on the basis of “baseless and concocted allegations” regarding Pakistan’s involvement in the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a meeting with top defence officials, underlined that the armed forces have “complete operational freedom” to determine the mode, targets, and timing of India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
