Pahalgam terror attack: Candlelight march in Pulwama against killings; locals denounce terror and call out Pakistan

New Delhi: As public outrage continues across the country over the brutal killing of 28 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday, people of Pulwama district condemned the terror attack and took out candlelight protest late on Wednesday evening.

The protest was organised by youth activists, civil society groups, students, and the business community. The candlelight vigil followed an earlier protest held the same day in the heart of Pulwama, where youth activists, Traders Federation, Bar Association, Transport Union, and hundreds of citizens took to the streets in a show of solidarity with the victims and their families.

With candles in their hand and voices raised against terror, the protesters demand swift action against the perpetrators of the attack. The air resonated with powerful slogans- “Masoomon ka qatl-e-aam band karo!” “Yeh jo dehshatgardi hai, iske peeche padosi hai!” “Yeh jo dehshatgardi hai, iske peeche Aasim Munir hai!”

The slogans directly called out the Pakistani establishment, naming General Aasim Munir as the architect of a long-standing proxy war that continues to spill the blood of innocents in Kashmir.

“Pulwama is no longer silent. From daylight protests to candlelight vigils, this district is showing the world that we can grieve and resist at the same time. Terrorism has no place in our land. And those orchestrating it from across the border—especially from Rawalpindi—must be named, shamed, and brought to justice,” social activist and Rashtrapati Awardee, Mudasir Dar told News9live.

The protest concluded with special prayers and a collective pledge to uphold peace and counter radicalism in every form.

At least 28 tourist, including an Indian Navy officer Lt. Narwal, were brutally gunned down and several others were injured by terrorists in Baisaran in Pahalgam in Anantnag district of J&K on Tuesday. The incident has caused massive outrage across the country with the Centre taking multiple steps against Pakistan in response to ghastly act.
