Pahalgam terror attack: PM Modi’s Kanpur visit cancelled

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kanpur on April 24, where he was scheduled to inaugurate and lay foundation stone for a number of projects worth Rs 20,000 crore have been cancelled in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed and several others were injured.

The decision has been taken keeping in mind the somber mood and sentiments of the people. Among those who lost their lives in the incident was Shubham, a young man from Kanpur. The event was cancelled after authorities felt it was not proper to hold the event during the period of grief

PM Modi to participate in pre-scheduled programme in Bihar

On the same day, the Prime Minister will participate in a pre-scheduled official programme in Bihar’s Madhubani district on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Diwas. The event will also see participation from people across the country via video conference.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi cut short his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia after the attack. He not only spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone from Jeddah and enquired about the incident, but also held a meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar soon after returning to the country.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah who is in Jammu and Kashmir to assess the situation after the attack, met victims in a Srinagar hospital where they are being treated and enquired about their health. He also met family members of the deceased and promised to bring the perpetrators of the attack to book.
