New Delhi: There have been various terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir since several years. The government, over the years took several steps over the years to control the menace of terrorism. The period also saw a few incidents related to stone pelting in the region. Between 2000 till now, the government used several methods like improving infrastructure of the Union Territory to improve lives of locals to eliminations of terrorists.

The current Modi Government also took various steps to prevent the surge of terror activities. Even as the government announced various schemes for the people it also improved infrastructure including introducing bullet trains, improving rail and high connectivity. Among other steps take, the government also repealed Article 370 and divided the former state into two Union Territories. While Ladakh became one union territory, Jammu and Kashmir became the other.

The security forces also eliminated various terrorists, most of whom were from the neighbouring countries of Pakistan. Even then terrorists had been succesful in conducting various against common citizens particularly minorities in Jammu in Kashmir.

Major terror attacks on civilians in Kashmir since 2000

March 21, 2000: Close to 36 Sikhs were killed in Chittisinghpura village of Anantnag after a terror attack in Anantnag district. The incident took place a day before then US President Bill Clinton’s visit to India.

August 2000: As many as 32 Hindus, including 21 Hindus were killed in a terror attack at the Nunwan base camp. The victims were on their way to Amarnath Shrine on pilgrimage

July 2001: This time again, Hindus going to Amarnath Yatra were attacked in Sheshnag base camp in Anantnag. A total of 13 people were killed in the attack.

October 2001: A total of 36 people were Suicide attack at the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature Complex in Srinagar. A suicide teror attack, it was claimed by Jaish-e-Mohammed.

2002: A total of 11 Amatnath pilgrims were killed by terrorists in Chandanwari base camp terrpr attack. Same year, 19 people including nine security personnel lost their lives in Improvised Explosive Device blast at Lower Munda in South Kashmir.

2003: A total of 24 Kashmiri Pandits were killed at Nandimarg village in Pulwama district.

2016: Four terrorists attacked the Indian Army brigade headquarters in Uri in September month of this year. At least Nineteen soldiers were killed and 30 others were injured in the incident.

2017: Eight people were killed in on Amarnath Yatra bus in Kulgam.

2019: A convoy of vehicles which were carrying security personnel was attacked by a suicide bomber on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in the Pulwama district. Forty soldiers were killed in the attack on February 14.
