‘Matka Rally’ at Delhi University to protest drinking water crisis on campus

New Delhi: The students of Delhi University led by DUSU President Ronak Khatri held a Matka rally at the campus to highlight the severe drinking water shortage. They demanded that the administration resolve the water shortage crisis. However, the University administration denied the allegations, calling it a show-off.

Khatri told the media, “We just want to keep our pots inside the campus, just the way we kept them outside the DUSU office, because there is a huge water shortage inside. And the VC office is right next to it. Firstly, they don’t provide us with water, and secondly, if we try to keep water on our own, they stop us.”

“The students are suffering a lot due to a lack of water facilities. They are compelled to buy bottled water, which is an additional burden on the pockets of students. It’s a shame to the whole of India that there is a lack of proper facilities of drinking water in Delhi University,” he added.

Replying to the allegations of students, the official said, “If they tell us even a single institution where there is a shortage of water, we will take responsibility for it. After they raised the issue earlier, 50 new water coolers with RO have been installed.”

“The pots that are being shown off, from where will they fill them, and who is to assure whether the water in them is clean or not. If a child falls sick after drinking that water, who will be responsible for it? They will run away, leaving it to the university authorities. This is just a show off,” she added.
