‘No Hindu symbols for DMK cadre’ DMK MP A Raja sparks row over religious marks

New Delhi: DMK MP A. Raja is once again in controversy due to his remarks encouraging party members to abstain from wearing Hindu religious symbols, like kumkum, sacred ash, and wristbands with religious symbols. His comments have provoked outrage among Hindu groups as well as political opponents. Tamil Nadu BJP has firmly criticised his position and has demanded action from Chief Minister MK Stalin.

In the video, Raja is seen addressing party workers and advising them to avoid religious symbols to avoid confusion between DMK members and those related to the Sangh Parivar. He further stated, “If required, worship God. No issues. That is why I am saying please leave students out of this. God is love. We see God in the smiles of the poor, as rightly said by Anna. The heart is the abode of a loving God.”

He further went on to say that party workers should refrain from wearing religious marks while indulging in political activities. “But when you wear a DMK border dhoti and come to party work or office, please remove them so that you can be easily spotted as our men. If we have no ideologies, the political party won’t succeed. AIADMK is the best example of this,” he further stated.

BJP slams Raja’s remarks as anti-Hindu

The Tamil Nadu BJP has strongly criticised A. Raja’s comments, labelling the remarks as offensive to Hindu traditions. BJP spokesperson A.N.G. Prasad has issued a statement condemning Raja’s remarks and has asked Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to take immediate action against him. Prasad has mentioned that the recent statements remarked by DMK MP A. Raja are inappropriate, as they look down on the spiritual thoughts and practices of the Tamil people and intentionally create a rift between the communities.
