Time to introspect: Dattatreya Hosabale as RSS completes 100 years

New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale on Sunday said that the organisation has been very clear about the way it perceives completing 100 years. As the organisation marks this feat, Hosabale said such occasions are not meant for celebration but provide us with an opportunity to introspect and rededicate to the cause. He further said that the occasion also provides the members with an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of the stalwart saintly figures who guided the movement and the series of Swayamsevaks and their families who selflessly joined this journey. He said that there cannot be a better opportunity than the birth anniversary of the Sangh founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, for this introspection.

He described Hedgewar as a born patriot whose unconditional love and unadulterated dedication for Bharat was visible in his actions from childhood. Praising him further Hosable said, “Doctor ji respected all those ways and never tried to belittle any of them. Social reforms or political independence was one of the central points of discussion at that time. At the same time, as a doctor of Indian society, he diagnosed the fundamental problems that caused us to lose our independence and decided to find a lasting solution.”

He further said that as thousands join the RSS, there is a growing acceptance and expectations of the society from the Sangh. This he said meant approval of Doctor Ji’s vision. He described the progressive unfoldment of this movement and philosophy as a miracle. According to Hosable it was not easy to explain the idea of Hindutva and the idea of Rashtra when most of the English-educated elites were influenced by European ideals of nationalism. At the time Doctor Hedgewar did not theorise the ideology, but he gave an action programme in seed form that has been the guiding force in this journey, said Hosabale. It was an achievement in itself that during the lifetime of Hedgewar, Sangh’s work reached all corners of India, he added.

Hoisable then went on to talk about how the Sangh Swayamsevaks rescued Hindus from Pakistan during and after the Partition of the country. They also helped in resettling them with honour and dignity. He said that today Sangh is still focussing on the cultural awakening of society and creating a strong network of right-minded people and organisations. Participation of women in social transformation and restoring the sanctity of family institutions has been the focus of Sangh for the last few years, said the leader.

According to Hosable, in the past 100 years Sangh, as a movement of national reconstruction, has travelled from neglect and ridicule to curiosity and acceptance.
