Dehradun: The Nineteenth Annual Sports of the Dehradun-based Forest Research Institute Deemed to be university concluded on Friday with great enthusiasm. In the annual sports, M.Sc. students and PhD researchers participated enthusiastically. This event of sports, which started on Monday, continued for five days. Various competitions were organized.

The main attractions were athletics (100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 1500 m race, shot put, long jump, discus throw, high jump, javelin throw), volleyball and tug of war. The participants took part in the games with excellent sportsmanship and competitive zeal.

In the closing ceremony, the Registrar, Forest Research Institute Deemed to be University welcomed all the dignitaries, participants, and spectators. He highlighted the importance of sports competition and encouraged the students towards sports.

DG, ICFRE, as the chief guest

Mrs. Kanchan Devi, Director General, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education and Chancellor, Forest Research Institute Deemed to be University was present as the Chief Guest in the closing ceremony. She highlighted the importance of sports by saying that sports are not only a means of physical development, but also strengthen discipline, cooperation, and mental strength. Program Coordinator and Controller of Examinations Dr. Vipin Prakash gave the vote of thanks. He thanked all the guests, participants, organizers, and spectators.

Sal House best performer

In this event, Sal House performed best and was the overall champion of the 19th Annual Sports Meet-2025 and won the trophy, while Sandalwood got the second place. The individual champions were Harshita of the Sal House in the women’ category and Yogesh of Sal House in the men’ category.

Presentation of awards

All the winners were presented awards by Mrs. Kanchan Devi, Director General, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education and Chancellor, Forest Research Institute Deemed to be University. According to a press release, the entire organizing committee and players made a special contribution for the successful organization of this sports festival.
