Key projects like the Rafale fighter jet deal, the Scorpene submarine programme and talks on developing next-generation fighter jet engines show the growing military ties between the two countries.
Strengthening defence ties
Discussions are underway for the purchase of 26 Rafale-M jets for the Indian Navy’s aircraft carriers, along with three extra Scorpene-class conventional submarines. Joint military exercises, including VARUNA (navy), GARUDA (air force) and SHAKTI (army), have improved teamwork and preparedness for future security challenges.
In addition to traditional defence, India and France have taken a major step in space security by signing a Letter of Intent on Defence Space Cooperation. The agreement will help both countries work together on space-based security and surveillance, strengthening India’s capabilities in modern warfare.
