New Delhi: Days before the Delhi Assembly election, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar strongly criticized the AAP government, expressing embarrassment over the state of basic amenities in the national capital. He accused the ruling party of failing to ensure essential services such as clean water, electricity, healthcare and housing. Calling it unfortunate that the city has been “left behind,” Jaishankar urged voters to bring about a change in leadership in the upcoming polls.

“Whenever I visit foreign countries, I hide one thing from the world. I feel ashamed to go abroad and say that people living in the national capital do not get houses, do not get cylinders, or piped water under Jal Jeevan Mission and do not get the benefit of Ayushman Bharat,” Jaishankar said during an interaction with the South Indian community in Delhi.

‘Delhi left behind’

“It is unfortunate that in the last 10 years, Delhi has been left behind. The residents of Delhi are not given their rights to water, electricity, gas cylinders, and healthcare. If the government here does not give you your rights, then on February 5, you should also consider changing this government,” he added.

Delhi will vote on February 5 to elect 70 Assembly members in a three-way contest between the AAP, BJP, and Congress. The BJP has criticised the AAP government for neglecting basic civic needs despite a decade in power. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said Delhi, as the capital, should set an example in development but has instead fallen behind over the last 10 years.

Shah accuses AAP of corruption

At a rally on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the AAP of corruption and sheltering illegal immigrants, calling it a “3G” government of “Ghapla (corruption), Ghuspaithiyon ko panah (sheltering intruders), and Ghotala (scams).” BJP leader Anurag Thakur attacked Arvind Kejriwal for failing to improve air quality, clean the Yamuna or provide clean water. With only days left, all three major parties are in the final stretch of an intense election campaign.
