New Delhi: Congress MP and the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi will hit the campaign trail in the national capital on Monday with a public meeting at northeast Delhi’s Seelampur. Gandhi’s rally comes days after the Congress party renewed its attack on ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) last week.

According to the party leaders, the ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ rally is set to be attended by the Congress leaders and thousands of supporters. This will be Gandhi’s first rally in Delhi for the upcoming assembly elections.

“Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will address a public meeting — ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Samvidhan’ — on Monday at 5.30 pm in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur area. A large number of people, Congress party workers and leaders will participate in it,” said AICC Delhi in-charge Qazi Nizamuddin during a press conference while informing about the Seelampur rally.

In November last year, the Congress party held a month-long ‘Delhi Nyay Yatra’ in a move to get in direct touch with voters. The yatra was organised along the lines of Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’.

AAP-Congress war out in open ahead of Delhi

The Congress party has now decided to go all out against its India Bloc partner AAP in Delhi after the latter ruled out any alliance in Delhi for the assembly polls. As per its strategy, the grand old party will target AAP over issues like corruption and crores spent by former CM Arvind Kejriwal on renovation of its official residence, while highlighting the development works in the national capital during late CM Sheila Dikshit’s rule.

“We will focus on the achievements of the Sheila Dikshit government and the development work it had done during that time. Due to that development work, the national capital became world class. For that, we are going door to door and telling people about the achievements of our previous government,” PTI quoted Sandeep Dikshit, the party’s candidate for the New Delhi constituency.

Delhi Assembly Elections dates

Voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will take place on February 5. The counting of votes will be taken up on February 8.

In the 2015 and 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, AAP won 67 and 62 seats respectively. The BJP won three seats in 2015 and eight in 2020 while the Congress drew a blank.
