Indian Army seizes 42 weapons, ammunition in Manipur in coordinated operations

New Delhi: In a series of coordinated operations by the Indian Army, 42 weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores have been seized from the hill and valley regions of Manipur. They covered the districts of Imphal West, Chandel, Thoubal, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur. The successful operations, carried out over the last few days, were based on specific intelligence and executed in partnership with the Manipur Police and other security agencies.

On 30 December, a joint search operation with the Assam Rifles, CRPF and Manipur Police in the Konchak area of Imphal West led to the recovery of a Carbine Machine Gun (CMG), a modified .303 rifle, two pistols, three single-barrel rifles, grenades, ammunition and other war-like stores.

Weapons, explosives seized

The next day, a similar operation by Assam Rifles and the Manipur Police in Chandel district, between Thingphai and TS Laijang villages, resulted in the recovery of an M-16 rifle, three Lathods, seven Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), ammunition and other military stores.

In Churachandpur district, a joint operation involving the Indian Army, SSB and Manipur Police led to the recovery of an SLR rifle, a modified .303 rifle, two automatic pistols, a single-barrel 12-bore gun, an anti-riot gun, grenades and other war-like stores on 31 December, in the Khujoirok Nala area, northwest of Thumkhonglok.

That apart, a search operation in the jungle near Saiboh Village in the Sangaikot Sub Division on 02 January 2025, conducted by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police, yielded a Self Loading Rifle (SLR), two pistols and three 12-bore single-barrel rifles.

Huge weapon haul by Assam Rifles, Manipur Police

Between 30 December and 03 January, more recoveries were made in the general areas of Konchak (Imphal West), Leishangthem (Thoubal), and Laibol Khunou (Kangpokpi). Assam Rifles and Manipur Police seized a Carbine Machine Gun, a modified .303 rifle, four single-barrel rifles, seven pistols, a modified sniper rifle, two single bolt-action rifles, an improvised long-range mortar, a 12-bore gun, ammunition and more war-like stores.
