New Delhi: Many might not know that the actress Nimrat Kaur belongs to an army family background. Her father is Major Bhupender Singh, who was killed by terrorists on January 23, 1994. To honour his sacrifice for the country, he was honoured in his hometown in Rajasthan, Sri Ganganagar on the occasion of his 72nd birth anniversary.

To honour Major Bhupender Singh and 12 others who were killed during the line of duty, a war memorial was inaugurated by Nimrat Kaur. The war memorial has a bronze bust on it. Let’s delve into more details!

Nimrat Kaur along with her mother Avinash Kaur and sister Rubina Singh inaugurated the war memorial of late Major Bhupender Singh and 12 other soldiers who were killed on duty. Nimrat took to X (formerly Twitter) to share pictures from the inauguration. She wrote a long note stating that her father’s “long-term dream” for the family has come true with the inauguration of a war memorial dedicated to him and his other 10 fellow army men, who also hailed from Sri Ganganagar.

She expressed her “deepest gratitude” for making this dream come true for her family. She further added, “May the supreme sacrifice of all these soldiers be remembered forever and inspire generations to come. Jai Hind.”

Apart from them, family members of the twelve other soldiers were also present at the inauguration along with senior officials of the Indian Army, people from nearby villages, and representatives of the local administration.

Who was Major Bhupender Singh

Nimrat Kaur’s father Major Bhupender Singh was serving as the Officer Commanding of the 99 Road Construction Company and was responsible for building five Bailey bridges on the Khannabal-Pahalgam road when he was kidnapped and killed terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir. The Bailey Bridges construction was a part of the Beacon project. The incident happened when he decided to do a recce of construction sites along with two officers and 13 soldiers.

Nimrat Kaur’s father and other soldiers were ambushed in Jammu & Kashmir and fired from a close range but Major Bhupender quickly positioned his men to crossfire and broke the ambush. However, he was kidnapped by the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and demanded the release of some terrorists. A week later, he was killed by terrorists.
