‘Farzi voters se ishq hai’: BJP takes a dig at AAP over voter list ‘discrepancies’

New Delhi: Launching a blistering attack at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over alleged voter list manipulation , the BJP on Thursday alleged that AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal harbours a “love for bogus voters”. The saffron party alleged that some AAP leaders and their family members hold dual voter registrations.

Taking a swipe at Kejriwal and his party at a press meet, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva displayed a poster which read ‘Farzi voters se ishq hai’ (In love with bogus voters). Sachdeva said that AAP MP Sanjay Singh, in his 2018 affidavit for Rajya Sabha, announced himself as a voter in Delhi’s Hari Nagar assembly constituency, despite his name also appearing in the voter list of his hometown Sultanpur municipality in Uttar Pradesh.

He also alleged that it was only on January 4.2024 that Singh’s wife, Anita, had applied for the deletion of her voter registration in Sultanpur, few days before Singh filed his parliamentary affidavit on January 8, 2024, which still showed her as a registered voter there.

The Delhi BJP chief pointed out that Sanjay Singh says that his wife Anita Singh’s name was struck off from the Sultanpur voter list on January 4, 2024. But, while filing his parliamentary affidavit on January 8, 2024, her name was still registered as a voter in Sultanpur, Sachdeva claimed.

In response to the allegations, Singh stated that the application for his wife’s voter deletion was submitted following the required process. He said: “On January 4, she submitted applications for deletion of her vote in Sultanpur. The affidavit was submitted on January 8, and until the process is complete, the address remains the same. Once the voter list is updated, the new address will be recorded.”

Call for legal action from EC, Delhi Police against AAP MP

Sachdeva demanded legal action from the Election Commission and Delhi Police against Singh, claiming “discrepancy” in voter registration. He alleged that Singh rushed to apply for a vote transfer on December 30 after the BJP brought the issue to the fore.

The BJP leader also accused Delhi Mayor Mahesh Kumar’s wife of having dual voter registrations under separate names but from the same address and photo. Sachdeva also underlined that a case regarding two voter ID cards allegedly held by Kejriwal’s wife was pending in the high court.
