A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, while hearing the matter, pulled up the Punjab government, saying that there is a deliberate attempt in the media by the officers of the state government and some farmer leaders to give an impression that court is pressuring him to break the fast.

Our directions was not to break Dallewal’s fast: Apex Court

“There is a deliberate attempt in the media to give an impression that the court is pressuring him (Dallewal) to break the fast. Our directions was not to break his fast. We just said let his health be taken care of and then his fast can go on. Shifting him to hospital does not mean that fast is broken. Our concern is that there is no harm to his life,” the bench said.

Efforts are being made to persuade Dallewal to take medical help without breaking his fast: Punjab

The Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh told the bench that efforts are being made to persuade the farmer leader, who is sitting on a fast-unto-death protest at the Khanauri border for last several days, to take medical aid without breaking his fast.

Apex Court directed Punjab chief secretary, DGP to file affidavits on compliance with its December 20 order

The chief secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab appeared before the court virtually in the matter and the bench asked them to file their affidavits indicating compliance with its earlier December 20 order directing the Punjab government to shift the farmer leader to a nearby makeshift or temporary hospital at the Khanduri border to monitor his health condition.

The top court would further hear the matter on January 6.
