Rajasthan: Police asks farmer pay Rs 9.91 lakh for security after suicide threat

Jhunjhunu: The police have asked a farmer from Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan to pay Rs 9.91 lakh for security arrangements that were placed to prevent him from dying by suicide. The man had earlier threatened to take the extreme step for not getting the compensation for land acquisition.

According to the news agency PTI, the farmer Vidhyadhar Yadav had expressed his disappointment after his house was demolished last month for the construction of a cement plant in Gothada village, without giving him compensation. The farmer had also said that he did not have any option but to request for euthanasia, as not only his land was taken away, but his house was also demolished without providing him any compensation.

However, Yadav claimed that he did not demand any deployment of police that that he was being charged unnecessarily. He has since been provided with compensation of nearly Rs 3.8 crore. Earlier this month, the police had issued a notice in which it said that a total of 99 police personnel were deployed for the farmer’s security. Among those deployed included one Additional Superintendent of Police, two Deputy Superintendents of Police, two inspectors, three sub-inspectors, six assistant sub-inspectors, among others.

Apart from them, the government vehicles were used in the deployment which resulted in the increase of the financial burden on the state government. The notice added that the farmer would have to pay Rs 9,91,577 that were spent on his security.

“The notice has been served for recovery because the police force was deployed for security,” SP Jhunjhunu Sharad Chowdhary quoted by the agency as saying further.
