Jammu: Six dead, four injured in fire at house in Kathua

Jammu: At least six people died and four others were seriously injure in fire at a house in Kathua of Jammu of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday early morning.

Based on the initital observation cause of the deaths seems like suffocation.

As per the reports, a fire broke out inside a house in the Shiv Nagar area of the district, filling it with thick smoke while its occupants were sleeping.

“A fire broke out in a rented house of a retired assistant matron. Out of 10 people, 6 were brought dead and 4 of them were injured… Prima facie it seems like the cause of the death is suffocation…The police are investigating the matter. Bodies will be released after the post-mortem,” said Kathua GMC Principal SK Atri.

Officials said that the locals noticed a fire around 2.30 am and rushed to the house. The victims were shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kathua, where six, including two minors, were declared brought dead.

“Ten people were brought to the hospital. Six were brought dead, and four others were injured,” a senior doctor at the hospital said.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh expressed shock over the fire incident in Kathua.

“Deeply shocked to learn about the accidental death of 6 members of a family resulting from fire incident in the Shiv Nagar area of Kathua city..,” tweets Union MoS Dr Jitendra Singh.
