Dehradun: While promoting the winter Char Dham Yatra, the state government has also intensified the process for the constitution of “Uttarakhand Dharmaswa and Tirthatan Parishad” (UDTP) for the better management of the Char Dham Yatra as well as other religious pilgrimages in the state.

The state’s tourism department gave a presentation before the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami regarding the future role of the UDTP. Uttarakhand is a state where various Yatras and fairs are organized throughout the year. Thus, the state needs the UDTP to manage and operate the yatras and fairs properly. In absence of a separate body, it is a difficult task to manage these yatras and fairs.

TDTP to manage Char Dham yatra

In the first phase, the Char Dham Yatra, Adi Kailash, Purnagiri Yatra, and Srinanda Rajjat are likely to be managed by the UDTP. Gradually, the UDTP will take over the control of other pilgrimages and fairs in the state.

UDTP is the need of hour

Moreover, the state government has been currently promoting the winter Char Dham Yatra to invite pilgrims to visit the winter seats of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Unlike the past, the Char Dham Yatra will continue throughout the year and the proposed UDTP is now the need of the hour. The state government has taken initiatives to constitute the UDTP.

Three different committees under UDTP

Under the proposed UDTP, three different committees-the policy making and guidance committee, the planning and coordination committee, and the implementation management committee- are likely to be formed. While the policy making and guidance committee is supposed to formulate policies and provide guidance for religious pilgrimages and fairs, the planning and coordination committee is meant to ensure the implementation of the policies and guidance. The implementation management committee may be given responsibility of organizing, managing, and controlling scheduled fairs.

The government is already under a plan to increase the carrying capacity in the four shrines in view of the infrastructural development there.
