Calling upon the public to contribute to the welfare fund, he emphasized the importance of supporting those who safeguard the nation.

Why is Armed Forces Flag Day celebrated?

Armed Forces Flag Day, observed annually on December 7, celebrates the courage and dedication of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Established in 1949 by the Defense Minister’s Committee, the day aims to honor soldiers and raise funds for their welfare. Over the years, this initiative has become a symbol of national solidarity and gratitude towards the armed forces.

The funds raised on this day are used for the rehabilitation of war victims, welfare of ex-servicemen, and support for their families. Volunteers across the country sell small flags, stickers, and coupons to raise money, which is managed by the Central Sainik Board and its local branches. These contributions play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of those who have served the nation.

The observance of Armed Forces Flag Day includes patriotic events organized by armed forces units to raise awareness about their services and achievements. These activities remind citizens of the sacrifices made by soldiers in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty. The day also strengthens the connection between the armed forces and the general public, fostering a sense of respect and unity.
